The Brief Index

A practical guide to the fit that changed men's underwear. Rise, leg opening, fabric, pouch and what actually matters when choosing a brief.

What is a low-rise brief?

A low-rise brief is cut with a shorter distance between the crotch and waistband than a traditional full-rise brief. The result is a more compact silhouette, usually worn lower on the torso. Rise is not the same as size: choosing a larger size does not reliably turn a low-rise brief into a high-rise fit.

Three things that change the fit

01 / The rise

A lower rise changes where the waistband meets your torso. Compare the garment shape, not only the number on the size label.

02 / The leg line

A higher-cut leg opening exposes more upper thigh and changes how the brief moves with your hip. A shallower curve can feel different from a conventional straight leg opening.

03 / The pouch construction

Front seams and panel geometry control how fabric shapes around the body. ELIO's cotton brief uses two inward diagonal pouch seams rather than a central front seam.

Cotton versus bamboo blends

Cotton-rich stretch fabric tends to have a familiar matte hand and structure. Bamboo-derived fabrics are often chosen for a smoother, softer touch, but feel varies by the actual textile blend and knit. Fabric labels matter more than generalized claims about either fiber.

Find your first ELIO brief

Start with your usual underwear size. If you're between sizes, choose the larger size. ELIO briefs are intentionally low-rise, with a narrow waistband and high-cut leg line.
